Salami Equals League Goal Record

With all eyes on Kano Kano Pillars  Ahmed Musa, Niger Tornadoes striker Eugene Salami has stolen past the Pillars man to become the second player after Akarandut Orok to equal Ishaya Jatau’s  17-goal league scoring record in a season.

Salami was on target in Tornadoes’ 1-2 defeat to Shooting Stars at the Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan.

Going into the weekend’s games, the Tornadoes man was tied at 16 goals with Musa, but his consolation for the Minna side may not have won any points, but proved enough to put his name in the record books.

Despite hitting the landmark, the forward told the Premier League Official website npl.com.ng that his primary concern was helping Tornadoes do well, rather than chase the top scorer’s award.

“Anything can happen in football. I am not saying that I won’t like to win the highest goal scorer’s award, but my main concern is to play for my club and make sure that we do well in the league.

“But since I have the chance to win something for myself I will not mind and I will not allow it affect the target of the club,” Salami said.

And with three games left to play in the season, Salami now has a chance to set a new record.
