Super Eagles first choice keeper, Vincent Enyeama has been commended for his performances on the three matches Nigeria played at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, despite conceding five goals.

The Hapiel Tel Aviv of Israel safe hands was lauded by football pundit, Ifeanyi Maduwuba for proving his class and attracting some positive analysis to the country in an otherwise disappointing campaign in the first mundial on African soil.

Making the commendation over the weekend in an interview with Tidesports, Maduwuba noted that Enyeama deserves to be carried shoulder high following his outstanding performances.

“The man-of-the match award he won on two occasions speaks volumes of his performance and should be singled out for praise”, he said.

He continued that is not for the agility of keeper Enyeama, the Super Eagles disappointing result at the mundial would have been worst than it was.

Speaking on the way forward to Nigerian football, Maduwuba said that it was time Nigeria looked inward in its administrative setup with the view to entrusting the running of Nigerian football into the hands of professionals who have played the game at the highest level.

He dismissed the call to sack Lars Lagerback, saying “Lagerback, has done well given the short period of time he had to handle the national team. Besides, it will not be for the interest of the country to be hiring and firing coaches at every opportunity”.

He called for Lagerback’s contract to be renewed up to four years to enable him blend our players well before any major international competitions”.
