A pro-democracy group, the Goodluck Support Group (GSG) has declared its opposition to zoning as the basis for deciding who is elected as president.

Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, National Coordinator, GSG, made the declaration at the official unveiling of the group’s national secretariat and inauguration of state coordinators in Abuja.

“We wish to state our opposition to any form of zoning as the basis for deciding the election to the office of the president of the nation”, he said.

Gulak, said that the group would uphold the constitutional right of every eligible Nigerian to stand and test his popularity with the electorates irrespective of where he came from and the religion he practiced.

“Nigerians deserve a president, who irrespective of where he comes from, can deliver on electoral promises. “Nigeria needs a president, who can take her back to the rightful place in the comity of nations. “We are in dire need of a president, who can go beyond mere slogans to providing concrete and urgent desired solutions to myriads of national challenges”, he said.

According to Gulak, what is good for Nigeria at the moment is a president whose appeals are national and who can illuminate and unlock the latent potentials through brilliance.

“Nigeria does not need a mediocre, who will be promoted to national leadership on the basis of regional quota”, he said.
