Mrs Amaechi urges Women to Seek Elective Posts

Federal government’s support to have 35 percent of political positions reserved for women has been lauded by the wife of Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi

Dame Amaechi  who made the remark in Abuja said the move will provide platform for more qualified and credible women who shy away from partisan politics to seek elective positions.

Mrs Amaechi who was speaking during a dinner organised in honour of a delegation of women from Rivers State who participated in the two-day National Summit on, “Women in Politics,” in Abuja said that with the Federal Government support for women political empowerment, a major challenge militating against women political aspiration has been tackled conclusively.

According to her, “Federal Government support has demonstrated the fact that women have occupied heir pride of place and will afford more qualified women opportunity to seek representation in future elections”.

The Rivers Governor’s wife, who also commended the performance of female political office holders in Rivers State, appealed to women to reciprocate the men’s good gesture by being humble, and live a life worthy of emulation as leaders, especially to the men.

She expressed optimism that the state government under the leadership of Governor Amaechi will increase women participation in politics in the state.

The governor’s wife further hinted of her intention to convene a summit on women participation in politics in Rivers State to consolidate on the advocacy initiated by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

Earlier, some of the women leaders including Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Seminetari bared their minds on the summit and expressed optimism that it has awaken the political consciousness of Rivers women.
