Messi Salutes ‘Phenomenal’ Enyeama

Lionel Messi has described Vincent Enyeama as “phenomenal” after the Nigeria goalkeeper produced what he described as his ‘best performance’ to keep the Argentine forward at bay on numerous occasions in their Group B game at the weekend in South Africa.

“The goalkeeper was phenomenal,” Messi said after he and his Argentina mates were limited to a 1-0 win mostly thanks to Enyeama’s series of stunning saves.

“He takes all the credit. We played a great game today (Saturday) and created a lot of chances. We just couldn’t get the second goal.”

Enyeama, who has enjoyed some sparkling performances for Nigeria in the past, described it as his best

“It would be my best possible performance playing against the best possible player in the world, so it was my best,” Enyeama told a news conference after he was named Man of the Match.

Asked how he had done it, the deeply religious Enyeama said: “God is my secret, just God. He made me calm and he made me quiet.”

Argentina’s winner came from a corner after the goalkeeper finger-tipped a goal-bound Messi chip over.
