Maduekwe Declares For Senate, Pledges Poverty Eradication
A PDP senatorial aspirant for Abia North, Dr Chidi Maduekwe has attributed the prevalent poverty in Abia and the rot in the state’s educational system to lack of vision by past leaders.
Maduekwe told newsmen in Ohafia after his declaration that he was irked by the impoverishment of members of his constituency which had debased the moral value of the youth.
“The problem of poverty, lack of necessary infrastructure, debased moral values, declining sense of community, rot in the educational system must now be stopped,” he said.
He said that the present political and socio-economic challenges in Abia North senatorial zone demanded that leaders matched words with action.
‘’ It is therefore, necessary that we put our best foot forward and deploy vigorous talents to usher in development,’’ he said.
Maduekwe, who currently represents the South East in the Governing Board of Border Development Communities Agency (BCDA) in the Presidency, said that his aspiration was to change the fortunes of his people.
“It is evident that I have always shown commitment toward the well being of our communities in Abia North and it was for this reason that I started community care services within the zone, particularly in Bende and Aro/Ohafia Local Government Areas.
“This project was in collaboration with German Technical Aid Programmes (GTZ), under the 1981 Nigeria-German Technical-Aid protocol agreement,” he said.
Maduekwe, who served in the Federal House of Representatives between 1992 and 1993, said that he was committed to programmes that would alleviate poverty among the people.
