The Industrial and General Insurance (IGI) has insured the Nigeria Football Supporters Club for N100 million to enable 200 supporters to go to the 2010 FIFA South Africa World Cup.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Remi Olowude, the Executive Vice Chairman, IGI, made available to newsmen in Lagos on Friday.

Olowude said that the 200 supporters had been insured against permanent disability or death during the trip.

IGI is the official insurer of Nigeria’s national football teams.

“IGI has always provided moral and financial aid to the Nigeria Football Supporters Club.

“This is because the support the members of the club give to our players through their prayers, songs and dances is uplifting,’’ he said.

According to him, the presence of the supporters club in South Africa will ensure that the Super Eagles do not lack the backing of fans in any of their matches.

Olowude said that apart from the N100 million insurance cover, IGI had also provided a N2 million donation to facilitate the trip of the supporters to the Mundial.

He explained that IGI’s contribution was to ensure that the supporters club gave total support and motivate the Eagles to victory in their matches.

The statement said that, Dr Rafiu Ladipo, the President-General, Nigeria Football Supporters Club thanked IGI for the kind gesture

“IGI has always been there for us and they have proved again that they will always be there for us and for football in Nigeria,” he said.

Ladipo urged other corporate organisations to emulate IGI by sponsoring the activities of the club to motivate and strengthen them to support Nigerian national teams.
