Nollywood movie buffs and admirers were disappointed recently by the industry’s failure to take its rightful place at the just concluded Cannes international film festival where notable faces hugging the silver screen, all came in different colours and shades as the world had a glimpse of their favourite stars.

Notable among the stars on parade at this year’s event at Cannes were the likes of Aishwarya Rai, Malika Sherawat who are among Bollywood of India’s screen sex symbols among others as well as top Hollywood stars, while for Nollywood, no top A  list celebrity made an appearance on the red carpet except for Stephanie Okereke whose romantic comedy “Through the glass” was promoted by her Canadian distributor at the Cannes festival.

It was gathered that Hollywood of America and Bollywood of India stole the show at the detriment of Nollywood who didn’t make any visible representation in the area of our so called celebrities stuffing the red carpet. According to our source, most of Nollywood stars slug away from such international film festivals because they are not recognised as movie stars.

The source further disclosed that our stars might be drowned in the faces of celebrities at such international meetings and would develop inferiority complex when no one takes notice of their presence. It was also stated that Nollywood stars can only shine at events like AMAA and other African based events taken place on the continent and this is one factor that needs to be addressed in time to come.
