GOC Advises Soldiers On Constitutional Responsibilities

Officers and men of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, have been reminded of the need to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities and meet contemporary challenges through the effective utilisation of available resources.

The General Officer Commanding the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major-General Mohammed Isah, who made the call Friday, in his address on the occasion of his visit and commissioning of the 103 Battalion, Enugu, Mascot, “The Baby Dragon”, also urged them to always maintain high standards of training and discipline, adhere to military values, effective command and control while observing rule of law and excellent civilian – military relations in line with the vision of the chief of army staff.

Major-General Isah equally used the occasion to commend the youth corps member, Mr. Francis Korinjo, who constructed the status of the mascot as part of his community development effort, adding that the project was sponsored by the 103 Battalion.

Maintaining that a statue of the mascot could also be erected in a prominent place within the barracks, the GOC said: “All battalions/regiments are expected to have their own mascots, which must be approved by the Army Headquarters and an Army Number allotted to t hem like any other personnel of the Army. The Army number is allotted for the payment of personal emoluments, which is used for the upkeep and maintenance of the mascot”, he further explained.

Later in a brief chat with newsmen, the youth  corps member, Francis Korinjo, a student of Benue State University, explained that he initiated the project which was sponsored by the 103 Battalion in order to leave something to be remembered for after his community service at the battalion.

The high point of the ceremony was the commissioning of the mascot by the GOC, Major-General MD Isah.
