Federation Cup Group Matches Begin Today

Matches in the group stage of the 2010 Federation Cup competition will commence today in four centres.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), at the draws for the round held last week in Abuja had fixed June 14 for the clubs’ arrival, while matches will hold from June 15 to June 20.

Ayo Abdulrahman, a Sports Officer in NFF’s National Competitions Department, told newsmen  that the decision was to allow participating clubs  time to arrive at the venues.

The four centres, which are to host four clubs each, are Kano, Ibadan, Makurdi and Port Harcourt.

In Port Harcourt, Kaduna United and Niger Tornadoes open proceedings in the first match by 2.00pm while Kwara United takes on Unicem Rovers in the second game of the day by  4.00pm.

The two matches on the final day of competition will hold simultaneously at 4 p.m, while the quarter finals hold on June 22.

Enyimba International is the competition’s defending champions. The team defeated Sharks FC of Port Harcourt in the final of last year’s inaugural edition in Lagos.
