The Enugu State Government has concluded plans to carry out an auditing of teachers in the state’s secondary schools.

The government is dissatisfied with the huge figure of over 7,000 teachers currently in its payroll.

Chairman of the Post Primary School Management Board (PPSMB), Mrs Stella Ngwu,  told newsmen in Enugu  recently   that the figure comprised ghost and unqualified teachers.

She said that the exercise slated to last for one week would entail all teachers in the state coming physically to the headquarters of the board to collect and fill their forms.

According to her, the exercise will be conducted on zonal basis to guard against confusion and disorderliness.

Ngwu said, ‘’ the audit has become important because reports reaching us from education supervisors indicate that there are teachers who are not qualified to be in the system but who are drawing salary from it’’.

The PPSMB Chairman emphasised that there were some ghost teachers  in rural areas of the state who would appear during the pay period and thereafter disappear to their different businesses.
