Enugu Awards N3b Contracts For Water Projects
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Government has awarded N3 billion contracts to two companies for the replacement and extension of the water transmission network in various parts of the state.
Briefing journalists on Friday in Enugu, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Chuks Ugwoke, said the projects would be done under the Public Private Partnership initiative.
According to the commissioner, Sanshek Nigerian Ltd was approved to undertake the job at Independence Layout at the cost of N2 billion.
Ugwoke said Channel Engineering Company would handle the project involving Abakpa Nike, Trans-Ekulu and Emene areas at the cost of N1 billion.
“The Executive Council had earlier given approval for Sinecon Group of Companies to replace and extend water transmission mains and network in Ogui, Asata, Uwani and Idaw River,” he recalled.
The commissioner said the government would also extend similar projects to Nsukka and other urban centres in order to actualise its desire to provide potable water to the people.
In another development, Ugwoke announced that the draft of the Enugu State Public Procurement Bill had also been approved by the council.
He explained that the approval would ensure that all purchases were conducted in a competitive, transparent and accountable
manner.
Ugwoke said that when signed into law, the bill would facilitate the establishment of a Bureau for Public Procurement and strengthen the Budget Monitoring and Due Process Units.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Budget and Planning, Prof Willy Ugwuanyi; his Chieftaincy Matters counterpart, Chief Jacob Udeh and the Commissioner for Capital Development, Mr John Egbo, joined Ugwoke at the briefing.
