Egobueze: Organisers Postpone HOS Cup Final Indefinitely
The final match of the second edition of Rivers State Inter-ministerial football competition tagged Head of Service (HOS) cup between the Ministry of Information and Communications (Mighty Sparrows) and their Special Duties counterparts has been postponed indefinitely.
The match, earlier scheduled to hold on Thursday, (24/6/10) was put on hold following the shifting of the 2010 Rivers State Civil Service Week celebration, which the game is part of its activities.
According to a statement from the office of the Head of Service signed by the secretary of the 2010 Civil Service Week Planning Committee, Mr. Alaye Iketubosin, the shifting of the weeks’ activities was as a result of the recent murder of the chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Chief Anthony Egobueze.
The postponement, the statement said, was in honour of the slain chairman, who had always identified with and supported the civil service in its programmes.
It further stated that a new date for the final match of the HOS cup would be announced after the burial of the late Egobueze.
The organizers expressed regrets over any inconveniences the development might have caused.
It will be recalled that the Ministry of Information and communications defeated the Government House team edged their Ministry of Education counterparts by same margin in the semi final matches to qualify for the final.
