The Tide’s source reports that N600 million was disbursed to the hospitals in the first phase of the policy to enable them upgrade their infrastructure.
The grant would also enable the hospitals to recruit manpower, upgrade diagnostic equipment and implement maternal and healthcare services.
Presenting the cheque to the beneficiaries, Governor Martin Elechi, implored them to utilise the fund for the benefit of the people.
“This does not mean that government intends to inherit the management of your hospital,” he said.
He added that the grant policy would not jeopardise government provisions for general hospitals in the state.
Elechi, who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Sunday Nwangele, said that government had concluded plans to standardise the 13 general hospitals in the state.
