Delta Inaugurates 20-Man Committee For Sports Festival
Delta State Government has inaugurated the state chapter of the Central Organising Committee for the 17th National Sports Festival, “Garden City Games 2010”. The 20-man committee is chaired by Mr. Amaju Pinnick.
The State Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Utuama (SAN), who inaugurated the committee explained that the committee is charged with the responsibility of organising the 5th Delta State Sports festival and the zonal elimination for ball games, ‘which are to serve as prelude to the 17th National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt in the last quarter of the year 2010.
“It is the wish to the Government that Delta State retains the number one position which we have won and successfully defended in the past three consecutive editions of the National Sports Festival”.
Utuama urged the committee to inspire a new spirit and creativity into the state’s preparation and participation at the Garden City Games, reminding it that other states would be desirous of dethroning Delta State from its number one position.
“Your committee therefore has the arduous task of ensuring that Delta State achieves this objective of successfully defending our enviable number one slot”.
He listed the terms of reference of the committee as: ensuring adequate preparation of the state, determining the financial implication for the games, kits and other materials needed, ensuring the state’s successful participation, among others.
Pinnick in his response on behalf of the committee informed that Delta State was rated number one in all areas of the games and was ready to double its gold medal tally in the coming event.
He assured that the State ahs a good team and disciplined athletes that could deliver at the games.
