Dealer Advocates Safety Campaigns On Domestic Gas

As more Nigerians embrace the use of gas in place of kerosene stoves for domestic preparation of their food, a Port Harcourt-based gas dealer has stressed  the urgent need for regular campaigns on safety handling of domestic gas by stakeholders.

The Managing Director of Ezy Resources, Mr. Ezekiel Ojobo, who spoke to The Tide in Port Harcourt, wants the government, Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR), marketers and Non-governmental organisations to initiate regular safety campaigns to raise the level of awareness on proper ways of handling gas.

According to Mr. Ojobo, “it is a good thing that the number of those using domestic gas today has increased because of the many advantages derivable, but it is equally important that stakeholders enlighten the users on best safety practices for their sake.”

He regretted that all over the world, there were recorded cases of horrible and large scale destruction of lives and properties caused by gas related accidents and stressed the need for safety consciousness especially at this present period when emphasis was shifting to the use of gas for power.

On the efforts made by his company on safety, Mr. Ojobo remarked that though his company was in the business to make profit, it considers it equally important to give regular tips on safety handling of gas to its customers.

“Our sales officers, who are closer to the customers, are duty-bound to issue regular advice to  customers through handbills and oral form. By this humble way, we feel the incidence of mishandling and its associated accidents would be addressed,” he said.
