The Consumers Protection Council (CPC) plans to prosecute six persons and four companies in Anambra for allegedly selling adulterated products to consumers.

The South-East Zonal Co-ordinator of the council, Mr. Tamunor Tamunorkonbia, told newsmen in Awka on Friday, that the decision to arraign the suspects followed complaints from many consumers.

He noted with regret that the suspects had refused to respond to the council’s summons. “Necessary arrangements have been concluded to prosecute them because they have consistently refused to honour our summons. The measure is to serve as a deterrent to producers and sellers of fake and adulterated products”.

“What we have seen is a clear case of people taking the council for a ride, but once we charge them to court, people will be aware of what we are able to do,” he added.
