Bayelsa Assembly Confirms 5 Commissioner – Nominees
The Bayelsa House of Assembly has confirmed five commissioner-nominees whose names were forwarded to it by Gov. Timipre Sylva on June 21.
The nominees are Messrs Nathan Egba, who has been overseeing the Ministry of Information, ThankGod Apere, Micheal Ogiasa, Opukiri Ere and Mrs Ginbra Pamowei.
Sylva had pleaded with the lawmakers to consider the nominations following the resignation and disengagement of some commissioners from the State Executive Council.
He said it had become necessary to replace them to enhance governance in the state.
The Tide’s source reports that one of the former commissioners, Chief Asara A. Asara, resigned under questionable circumstances, while Sylva sacked the former Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Chief Ayakeme Whiskey, for alleged “non-performance”.
The five new nominees had earlier been drilled on wide range of issues relating to their academic backgrounds and professional experiences.
Mr Ruby Benjamin, representing Brass Constituency III, moved a motion for the confirmation of the nominees, saying that they had distinguished themselves in their presentations before the House.
The motion was seconded by Mr Walaman Igbrubia, representing Ogbia III.
