Bauchi Upgrades Stadium With N657m

Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State at the weekend said his administration spent more than N657 million on upgrading the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (ATBS), Bauchi.

He said this was done to meet FIFA standard during the  2009 U-17 football competition.

Yuguda said this in a state broadcast to mark the third anniversary of his administration.

The governor said the contract included installation of artificial turf, renovation and upgrading of main gallery, medical centre, supply of medical equipment and construction of a presidential stand.

Others, he said, were the supply and installation of FIFA standard LED display and energy saving flood light, electronic scoreboard and construction of  a media centre.

He said government also upgraded and renovated the Zaranda Hotel in Bauchi to meet FIFA standard.

Yuguda said the effort made by government made FIFA to rank the state the best among other hosts and earned an award for the effort.

On the Millennium Development Goals, Yuguda said government provided 140 solar powered bore holes and 220 hand pumps scross the state using the 2007 Conditional Grant Scheme.

He said 20 maternity clinics were also constructed and equipped with drugs and other items.
