Anambra Govt To Issue ID Cards To Residents
The Anambra Government plans to issue identity cards to the residents to curb what it described as the “high level of insecurity” in the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Chief Maja Umeh, announced the plan in Awka, on Wednesday, after the State Executive Council meeting.
He said the state government would stop at nothing to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Umeh, who expressed worry over the spate of kidnapping and armed robbery in the state, announced that the government had contracted the identity card project to a company.
He also said that commercial vehicles operating in the state would be registered and painted in a common colour.
Our correspondent reports that the state government had in the past adopted several measures to deal with the issues of kidnapping and armed robbery.
The government also advised community leaders to warn their people not to commit crimes, stressing that they would be held responsible for any armed robbery or kidnapping in their areas.
