Amaechi Tasks Women Parliamentarians On Nation Building

Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State has called on the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) to articulate views that will move the women folk forward and contribute to the socio-economic development of their nations.

Governor Amaechi made the call Friday night, during a dinner at Government House, Port Harcourt, organised in honour of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians African region, who were in the state for the first conference of the body.

The governor, who said that the conference would help the women to become better experienced in diverse cultures of the African Continent, enjoined them not to pursue only issues of human rights but also look at those of child rights to improve on the welfare of children and enthrone a better future for them.

Governor Amaechi expressed joy that he is opportuned to meet with those who make laws and direct the affairs of state policies and commended the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians for choosing Rivers State to host their first conference.

The Deputy Speaker of Ugandan Parliament and Chairperson of CWP, Hon Rebecca Kadaga, who expressed delight at the warm reception accorded them, noted that the debate at the Rivers State House of Assembly earlier in the day indicated a success story for the state.

Hon. Kadaga lauded the developmental efforts and policies of Governor Amaechi especially those geared towards improving the lot of children and women, saying that the issues already canvassed confirm that what the CWP was set to achieve are already in place in Rivers State.

The wife of the State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi, who expressed joy at the CWP in choosing Rivers State as the first state to host the conference, enjoined the men folk to always support women in the area of empowerment for children.

Highlights of the event were toasts for the growth and development of the Federal Republic of  Nigeria, Rivers State and the CWP as well as to Governor Amaechi on his 45th birthday anniversary.
