2011:Dabo Advises Jonathan To Run
A group, “Concerned PDP Elders for Jonathan/Sambo 2011”, wants President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice-President Namadi Sambo to contest the 2011 election because “their joint ticket is divinely ordained”.
Godwin Dabo, Deputy National Coordinator of the group disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement in Abuja.
The statement quoted Dabo as saying that apart from several eminent Nigerians who had said that the duo could contest the election, there was nothing stopping them from contesting.
“It is our conviction that nothing in the PDP Constitution prohibits President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan from contesting the 2011 Presidential election.
“We urge all Nigerians who are members of the PDP to individually and collectively support the Jonathan/Sambo 2011 presidential ticket from July 2010 until the elections are held in 2011,” it said.
The statement added that of all the geo-political zones in Nigeria, South-South, where Jonathan comes from, was the only one that has not had a shot at the Presidency since independence.
“The emergence of Jonathan as the President should be viewed by all Nigerians who are genuine lovers of our unity as a watershed in our march toward greater nationhood,” it disclosed.
While listing all the achievements of Jonathan presidency since assumption of office in May, Dabo said his continuation through a credible election in 2011, would bring more progress to the country.
“It is our firm belief that there must be a generational change in the political leadership of this potentially great country, if our vision to lay a solid foundation to be a great nation by 2020 is to be actualised,” the statement stressed.
