The fear of 2011 may be the beginning of wisdom for most Nigerians as majority of the citizens are apprehensive of what the year holds for the country, especially against the backdrop of the forthcoming general elections.

The apprehension is coming even as the Presidency and security organisations in the country have allayed fears that the election which holds next year will be violence-free and one of the freest polls in the country’s political history.

However, the emergence of some individuals with political ambition have gone to confirm that the 2011 elections may not after all be devoid of violence as promised by the authorities.

But while some Nigerians continue to remain apprehensive of the development, others are of the views that events in the country are under control.

Among those who believe that 2011 will be like any other year in Nigeria is Reverend Chris Enwerem of the Last Days Messenger Mission.

His reason is that, the situation in Nigeria is spiritually under control. Rev. Enwerem told The Weekend Tide in an exclusive interview that the affairs of Nigeria is totally under divine control.

This, according to him, is enough to convince the people that they need not panic as no individual person can single-handedly destroy this country.

According to him, the hands of God are upon Nigeria. “I know that the hands of God are upon Nigeria. Surely the hands of God is upon Nigeria. What we are seeing today is the hands of God. So no single person can destroy this nation and so I forsee God working out something to heal this nation”.

The clergyman also predicted doom for anyone who plans terror in the country, noting that the fight would be between him and God.

In his words: “I see any one that will cause crisis in the country, the fight will be between him and God, as God by his divine hands will arrest the situation”.

On the crises be- devilling the country, he said that it was in fulfilment of Biblical prophecy of perilous times, noting that it was not peculiar to Nigeria.

“Is not just the problem of Nigeria. This is the word of God. This is the sign of the end time. “It is stated in the book of first Timothy that perilous times shall come and that is where we are now”.

“Nobody can stop it. But what we are praying for, is that people should give their lives to Jesus Christ.

“Because, he says, iniquity shall abound and the love of many shall wax cold. So it is not just in Nigeria, it is the fulfillment of the Scriptures”.

Rev. Enwerem said that because of the fulfilment of this important aspect of the word of God, the church is more than ever propagating the gospel of repentance in preparation for the physical manifestation of Jesus Christ on planet earth.

According to him, the Last Days Messenger Mission firmly believes that Christ is coming very soon.

“We believe that Jesus is coming very soon. That is what we are preaching to the people”.

However, whether  the prediction of the clergyman over next year’s elections is true or not, only time will prove. Events in the next few months will prove the Reverend wrong or right, but for now, Nigerians are still keeping their fingers crossed.
