2011: Group Makes Case For New Generation Leaders
The Coalition of Oodua Self-Determination Group (COOSEG) has said it would only endorse new leaders for the 2011 general elections in the Southwest.
COSEG Coordinator, Mr. Razak Oladosu, told newsmen in Lagos that the group would not endorse leaders who wanted to perpetrate themselves in office.
Oladosu urged leadership of political parties in the zone and Yoruba elders to give the youths a chance in the polls.
“Our leaders have prevented us from choosing our heroes, but this time we will not allow any one to dictate to us,” he said.
According to him, the Southwast has in the past 50 years witnessed the same set of people or their cohorts in power “which should not be.
“we are tied of the recycling and we demand fresh and new ideas that can make the desired changes in Yorubaland,” Oladosu said.
He urged political parties to make nomination forms free to give individuals aspiring for positions of leadership a chance.
“Every card-carrying members of any party should be given opportunity just like the money bags. The only way to demystify godfatherism in Nigerian politics is making nomination forms free,” he said.
The group argued that the reason why money bags kept returning to power in Nigeria was the high fee demanded by the parties for nomination forms.
