20 Corps Members Get Service Extension In Delta

About 20 members of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in the 2009 Batch ‘B’ who had served in Delta State are to get service extension for various levels of absconment during the service year.

 The State Cordinator of NYSC, Mr. Chris Mgbemena, who said this during the passing out ceremony of 2009 Batch ‘B’ Corp members, disclosed that the extension of the service year of the coppers ranged from three to five months.

 In his speech, Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, charged Coppers to show interest in self- employment as it was not possible for government to provide job for everybody.

 The governor explained that the federal and state government were creating an enabling environment for youth corp members to be self employed, saying that the environment created include establishment of industries, provision of peace and security, electricity and improved transport system among others.

 He further remarked that the state government would start a micro-credit scheme for NYSC to empower coppers saying “the CBN micro-credit scheme for Corp members have trained and empowered many Corp members.

The state government will start a similar scheme for Corp members to key in and  actualize the self employment polices,  this is the area where many of you should show interest.

 He also enjoined them to be part of the federal government electoral reform system and contribute their quota in ensuring a credible election if recruited as electoral officers.

 Earlier in his welcome address, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Chris Mgbemena, commended the 2,314 outgoing Corp members for rendering dedicated service during the period, which according to him include embarking on construction works, environmental beautification/sanitation, rural health care, charity visitation and skill acquisition among others.

 He revealed that one Corp member, Dr. Ayeni Titilola, distinguished herself in her primary assignment and won the best copper award while eight others won the State Government Award while10 members received the NYSC Board Chairman award while three members received the CBN award.

 Mr. Mgbemena, however, charged the Corp Members to be master of themselves by putting into practice the skills they acquired during the service year and be self- employed saying, “There is no better time to start as masters of yourself than to be self employed. This is the time to dust the notes you took during the Entrepreneurship. Development Programme during your orientation course.

The Chairman of NYSC Governing Board, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, urged the Corp members to pursue the lofty ideals of skill acquisition they acquired in camp in their respective life endeavors, saying, “you are going into the labour market, use the skills you acquired during the service year and join hand in the task of nation building”.
