‘African Teams Need To Redouble Efforts’
A football enthusiast, Godwin Obikeze, has urged African teams at the World Cup to redouble their efforts in order for an African country to lift the trophy.
Obikeze, who lectures at the Anambra State University, gave the advice on Wednesday in Awka following Tuesday’s 0-1 loss by Cameroon to Japan at the competition in South Africa.
“Africa winning the World Cup will be difficult with how they are going about their games, when they are all virtually playing on home ground.
“How come the two strongest teams from Africa; Nigeria and Cameroon lost their opening matches when they had all the chances to have carried the day?”
Obikeze said that for the teams to do well, they must redouble their efforts and play as if they were on home ground.
“It is important that they play their opponents with zeal and determination and not show too much respect to their opponents,’’ the don said.
He hailed the courage of Bafana Bafana and the Ghanaians for making us proud.
“African teams should stop losing matches henceforth so as to ensure making it to the next round.
“All hands must be on deck. Africa is sure to make it to the semi finals,’’ Obikeze predicted.
