The Rivers State Ministry of Justice and Office of the Attorney-General will, on Monday next week, commence screening of 80 out of 755 Justice of the Peace applicants in Port Harcourt.
In a statement made available to The Tide, the state solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Dame Mina Benebo said another set of 81 applicants will be interviewed the following day, Tuesday, May 18, 2010 while, the third batch of 80 will take their turn on Wednesday, May 19, this year.
Dame Benebo urged members of the public to forward objections against any of the candidates being appointed justice of the Peace (JP) to the offices of the Justice Ministry at the state secretariat.
Such objections, she further explained , should be addressed to the honourable attorney-general and Commissioner for Justice, at Room 111 or office of the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary not later than Friday, May 14, 2010.
Dame Benebo announced that the screening of all candidates would go on every working day until the last batch of 333 on Friday, May 28, 2010.
While advising applicants with complaints bordering on omission of names to present same to the ministry, Dame Benebo warned against the tendency among nominees to parade themselves as Justice of the Peace until a final list of successful candidates is released.
According to her, the [publication of the lists of nominees does not confer the status of a Justice of the Peace on (such) persons, whose names are published in The Tide of Wednesday, May 12, 2010.
