Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has re-echoed the need for the Federal Government to relocate the headquarters of the Nigerian Navy to the state.
Governor Amaechi, who stated this yesterday at the commissioning of projects at NNS Pathfinder in Port Harcourt, said this is with a view to repositioning the Navy to deliver on its mandate of securing the nation’s waterways.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, Governor Amaechi reassured the Navy of the State Government’s continued support in its quest to discharge its constitutional role of defending the country, saying “Rivers State Government will cooperate with the Navy in every area necessary”.
Commending the outgoing Commanding Officer of NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Yusuf Hinna, for discharging his duties creditably and maintaining transparency and accountability during his tenure, the State Chief Executive said “Hinna has left a mark that is indelible and he will be remembered for his achievements”.
He welcomed the incoming Commanding Officer, NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Umar Ahmed, to the State, urging him to key into the State Government’s efforts at providing security for the lives and properties of citizens in the State.
Earlier, Commodore Hinna had praised the State Government for the hand of fellowship extended to him during his stay in the State, noting that the various projects executed during his tenure were possible due to the support received from the government.
He appealed to the State Government to extend the cordial relationship accorded him to his successor, saying that the Navy during his tenure received seven gunboats, accommodation for its personnel, funds and other resources that have enhanced its operational capability.
