PHCN Restores Electricity Supply To Two Etche Communities
After two years of blackout, Okehi, the Etche Local Government headquarters, and Akwukabi both in Etche Local Government Area have been reconnected to the national grid by Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
Our reporter, who visited the two communities, said people of the area were jubilating over the restoration of light as normal life has returned.
The Ochimba of Okehi, Eze Godwin Onwuka, commended the Chairman of Etche Local Government Council, Hon Ephraim Nwuzi and PHCN for their efforts towards the restoration of electricity in the area.
The royal father noted that for three years, the communities were disconnected, thus forcing both social and business activities to unbearable hardships.
It would be recalled that the two communities where disconnected as a result of fallen poles and cables between Ulakwo and Akwukabi communities, a situation that threw the council headquarters and Akwukabi into total darkness, thereby subjecting residents to the use of generators.
The PHCN facilities were later alleged to have been vandalized by unknown persons.
Attempts to reach the council boss, Hon Ephraim Nwuzi for comments did not yield result as he was said to be out of office on official assignment.
However, a senior official of the council confirmed that the absence of electricity in the area, particularly the council headquarters, had given the council chairman serious concern, hence the concerted efforts to ensure that electricity was restored in the area.
The official, who pleaded anonymity, advised people of the area to protect government facilities sited in their area, since they were installed by government for the good of the people.
He warned that government will not take it kindly with any individual or group caught tempering with PHCN facilities or any other property of the government in their area.
