Peace Returns To Abarikpo Community
Peace has gradually returned to Abarikpo Community in the Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
This followed the negotiation between the officials of the Local Government Council and Abarikpo Community to end their differences over rulership.
Speaking at the occasion, the chairman of the Local Government Council High Chief Cassidy O. W Ikegbidi commended the people for their peaceful disposition to issues and urged them to maintain the tempo.
High Chief Cassidy Ikegbidi advised interested persons wishing to vie for the dissolved positions to purchase application forms from the Council accordingly.
According to the Chairman, the application forms will be processed within two weeks to enable them conduct the said election which would usher in a new Eze Nwe-Ula under dispute induding other positions.
In their separate speeches, Chief Jones Odu, Uwauma Ekine and Marcus Echikwa on behalf of the community lauded the Council for restoring peace in the community and appealed that cases in court over the matter be withdrawn for proper resolution.
Also speaking, the community Women Leade:r,. Mrs. Virginia Odu and the Youth President Comr. Samuel Odoyi agreed to maintain peace in the community and solicited the assistance of the government to provide them with social amenities in the form of electricity, water and health facilities to enable them benefit as other communities in the Local Government Area.
It would be recalled that the council chairman High Chief Cassidy O. W Ikegbidi dissolved the positions of Eze Nwe-Ula, Community Development Committee and the Youth Council following chieftaincy wranglings and communal crises which had rocked the community over 13 years and lives were lost, and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.
