NDDC Completes Two Rice Factories

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has completed work on 180 tons and 10 tons per day rice processing plants at Elele Alimini in Rivers and Ikpe in Akwa Ibom.

Its Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Pastor Power Aginighan, disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Wednesday at a meeting with the Presidential Monitoring Committee on NDDC.

He said the commission received N561.03 billion since its inception in January 2001 and that various financiers owed it N477billion.

“This delays the operations of the commission.’’

Aginighan told the committee that NDDC awarded 2, 556 contracts for projects across the Niger Delta during the period, out of which 1,279 had been completed, with 614 inaugurated  while 607 are ready for inauguration.

He said that 956 projects were  going on while 88 were stalled and 66 terminated, noting that 10 other projects had been taken over by other agencies.

Aginighan disclosed  that the NDDC had trained 11,000 youths and women in various agricultural skills at Songhai in Amukpe, Delta State,

He said that  10,252 others were  also trained in welding and fabrication, marine engineering, electrical works, computer training, driving, fashion designing and other skills.

On health, Aginighan disclosed that 1,161,000 patients were treated by the commission under its free healthcare programme within the period under review, with medical referrals put at 767 locally and overseas
