NAPPS Commends Amaechi Over President’s Visit
The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has commended Governor Rotimi Amaechi over the successful hosting of President Goodluck Jonathan recently.
The president of NAPPS chapter in Rivers State, Dr Peter Harrison who spoke with Campus Insight Thursday, said the visit was timely and needed by Rivers people.
Dr Harrison, noted that President Jonathan was in the state to get for him self the first class information of what Governor Amaechi is doing in the state in the areas of education facelift, good health care delivery system, road projects and others.
The NAPPS also pointed out that the Governor has also done well over his plans to sponsor Rivers students on scholar schemes overseas in order to produce the required manpower for the state.
On the issue of numerous agents that terrorise schools on daily basis, he said that the government should check their activities saying that they may cripple school activities if urgent moves were not made.
He narrated how the agents siezed and impound private school buses with pupils/students on board adding that it is tantamount to kidnapping.
The Comprehensive College Proprietor, said that the Government should also intervene in the area of school proliferation, suggesting all wishing to own schools must have an educational qualification.
“Everyone wishing to own a school, should at least have a qualification in Education, school ownership should not be all comers affairs. They should also register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria” he said.
He regretted that quacks have invaded school operations, turning it to a dumping ground.
However, he has advised all school owners that are yet to be registered with NAPPS to hurry and do so as he appealed to the government to allow those whose schools are yet to be registered more grace to do so.
Earlier, he has applauded the Commissioner for Education, Hon Alice Nemi-Lawrence over her decision to monitor exams in the state and to trim down excessive registration of WAEC candidates, saying that it should be a continuous process.
