Lawmaker Lauds Amaechi On Establishment Of Agencies

The current swell in the number of state owned agencies has been described as a sign of good governance and service delivery in Rivers State.

The Lawmaker representing Abua/Odual Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon.. Henry  Ogiri made the observation at the recent public hearing on the establishment of Bureau of Statistics in Port Harcourt.

Hon. Ogiri, who is the chairman of the Committee on Finance Budget  and Planning noted that in the past two years since the inception of Amaechi-led administration the number of state owned agencies has swollen.

He believed that the evolution of agencies would not only engender democracy but would propel service delivery in the state as well.

Hon. Ogiri pointed that statistics is the bedrock of planning as it would provide the state with clear vision and precise budgetary allocation.

The Abua/Odual Constituency lawmaker maintained that when accurate statistics are gathered it would translate into economic prosperity, while assuring the quick study and passage of the bill.

Earlier on, Special Adviser to the state Governor on Statistics, Okey Okirie expressed delight over the interest the legislators have shown in the passage of the bill.

Hon. Okirie said the state would make history and witness economic prosperity because of the indispensability of accurate data in planning.

The Special Adviser called on the lawmakers to give the bill the special attention it deserves by ensuring that grey areas are expunged for effective and quick passage.

Okirie also enjoined the Nigeria Statistics Association to carry out its responsibilities in the provision of expert advice and commitment to ensure that the bill sails through the house.
