The Minister of National Planning, Dr Shamsuddeen Usman, on Friday in Abuja said that President Goodluck Jonathan is to launch the Vision 20: 2020 Document soon.

Usman disclosed this while inaugurating the Joint Planning Committee (JPC) for the 16th Nigerian Economic Summit (NESG), scheduled to hold in Abuja.

The document was originally scheduled to be launched on  October 1, 2009.

Usman said that copies of the document had been given to all serving ministers to serve as a guide in their policy formulation and implementation.

He said that a one-day retreat would be organised for the ministers in June to get them acquainted with the project and its implementation procedure.

“The implementation of the vision is currently in full swing with the last phase of the preparation of the first four years implementation plan of the vision being concluded, ‘’Usman said.

He tasked members of the Joint Planning Committee of the 16th NESG to work hard to ensure that this year’s summit slated for October 19 to October  21 became a success.

The minister said the committee was to review the report of the 15th Economic Summit, including the associated financial statement as well as make all preparatory arrangements for the successful hosting of the summit.

He said the committee had to articulate the budgetary requirement and the sources of funding for hosting the summit and to propose the optimal strategy for funding its activities.

“The committee is also to prepare the report and Green Book for the summit, within three months of the completion of the summit and to also mobilise relevant public and private sector stakeholders for the summit, especially  federal, state and local governments,’’ Usman said.
