Group Wants Anambra Crisis Resolved
A group, Political Parties Youth Leaders Forum, on Monday in Lagos called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to intervene in the Anambra North Senatorial political crisis.
The alleged political crisis followed the March 25 nullification of the election of Sen. Joy Emordi (PDP) by the Court of Appeal, Enugu which gave victory to Mr Adolphus Igbeke (ANPP).
The group said in a statement signed by the secretary, Mr Tochukwu Ikeh, that timely intervention of the CJN would forestall any miscarriage of justice.
“The controversy surrounding the appeal court’s verdict in the Anambra North senatorial election should be resolved in the interest of democracy and good governance,’’ the group urged.
It noted that the Court of Appeal gave the judgment late, saying judges hearing election petitions should bear in mind that their judgments would have serious effect on Nigeria’s democracy.
It urged the CJN not to allow the two judges who, it said, were part of the controversial judgment to hear the fresh appeal filed by Emordi.
Emordi is seeking interpretation of the judgment.
