Garden City 2010 Games Begins Nov. 18

The Local Organising Committee for the Garden City 2010 Games the 17th National Sports Festival has announced that the festival would commence November 18 and end December 2, 2010.

The Media/Publicity Chairman and member of the LOC, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, who is also the Commissioner for Information and Communications said this after this week’s LOC meeting at its Secretariat complex in New GRA Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

According to her, the Rivers Stat Government is eager to ensure that the 17th National Sports Festival will be a point of reference in terms of organisation and facilities.

She said, the government and LOC were working hard to ensure that the venues and facilities were ready ahead of the festival.

She said, renovation will soon commence on the plan B venues and facilities which are backups for the new facilities being put in place for the festival.

Mrs. Semenitari also said, Team Rivers will shortly move into closed camping to bring out the best trained athletes for the festival because the State is not only hosting, but was working seriously in order to win.

It will be recalled that members of the LOC led by its Chairman Engr. Tele Ikuru, who is Rivers State Deputy Governor, were in Abuja last week to liaise with the Main Organising Committee, MOC and the National Sports Commission, NSC toward ensuring that the state holds a successful festival.
