Enugu Completes 33KVA Power Project
The Enugu State Government has completed the construction and installation of a new thirty-three kilovolt (33KVA ) Electricity Power Network at the Oji River Power Station to provide power source for Inter-town Connection and Distribution to communities in Udi and Ezeagu local government area.
The power network project, which covered more than thirteen-kilometer route length, ran from Oji-River through Nachi in Udi Local Government Area to communities in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state
The state Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr. Emeka Ani made this known when he undertook a pre-commissioning inspection of the project and other on-going rural electrification projects in parts of the state.
Commissioner Ani who was accompanied by the General Manager, Enugu State Rural Electrification Board,(ES REB), Mr. Simon Atigwe, stated that the completed network project also involved rehabilitation of existing rural electrification and extension of new power lines in Nachi to improve electricity in neighbouring towns in Udi Local Government Area.
He explained that the completion of the network project and other on-going ones in Ezeagu Local Government Area axis were undertaken solely by the state government at the cost of more than one hundred and twenty million naira and would be handed over to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria for energization.
Commissioner Ani expressed optimism that the Oji-River Power Station and the Nachi- Inter-town Connection network would greatly improve power supply and reliability as well as improve the socio-economic development of the affect communities when commissioned.
The commissioner shortly after the inspection of the ongoing construction of thirty-three KVA Inter-town connection and installation of Transformer Sub-Station from Nachi through Obeleagu Umana, Umumba Ndiuno Ogwofia, Imezi Owa communities expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work already done.
He made it clear that the project was designed to reduce the work load on the hitherto installed dedicated power lines supplying electricity to the greater Ajalli Water Scheme, Ezeagu local government to ensure effective water supply to Enugu the state capital.
Commissioner Ani re-affirmed the commitment of Governor Sullivan Chime’s administration to providing a electricity to a total of ninety-six communities in parts of the state by 2011 and appealed to the people to exercise patience with the government to get the facility.
In his speech, the General Manager, Enugu State Rural Electrification Board, Mr. Simon Atigwe said that the Nachi network was completed according to specifications and quality work up to the standard of PHCN.
Mr. Atigwe assured that the on-going Nachi-Ezeagu Inter-Town connection and distribution network would be completed and energized in August this year.
Commissioner Emeka Ani and his team also inspected the Udi power sub-station at the ninth-mile corner designed to solely supply adequate power to the greater Ajalli water scheme in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
