CNPP Hails Ogbulafor’s Exit
The Chairman of CNPP in Ebonyi, Chief Jerry Obasi, has hailed the resignation of Vincent Ogbulafor as PDP National Chairman as a big relief to the party and Nigerian electorate.
Obasi told newsmen in Abakaliki on Friday that Ogbulafor having lost the PDP gubernatorial primaries in Abia State in 2007 should have looked before he leapt into that position.
Obasi remarked that it was disappointing that the PDP had always washed its dirty linen in public, which portrayed the party as incapable of handling the affairs of the country.
“A party which cannot put its house in order due to the selfish interests of its members should give way for other ideologically focused parties to lead the country.
“This development should serve as a wake up call to the opposition in the country to unite in order to wrest power from PDP so as to sustain the country’s democracy,” he said.
He advised President Goodluck Jonathan not to be involved in the quagmire of power bickering but ensure that he tackled the myriad of problems confronting the country.
Obasi further advised the president to give priority to the electoral reforms and power supply.
Mr Angus Onyeji, a lawyer and a human right activist based in Abakaliki, said that Ogbulafor’s resignation showed that the reforms currently going on in the PDP were on the right track.
“For any reform to succeed, Ogbulafor has to go and now that he is gone, the founding fathers of the party can now realise their objectives of returning the party to its original ideals,” he said.
However, some members of the PDP in Ebonyi, whose opionions were sought on the resignation of their national chairman, declined to comment on the development.
