Chelsea, Man Utd Fans Clash In Nigeria

Nigerian football fans’ unbridled love for the European League left two persons injured in Maiduguri after Chelsea and Manchester United fans clashed in the Borno capital on Sunday.

Tidesports gathered that the incident occurred at the Millennium Viewing Centre, Maiduguri, shortly after Chelsea were crowned champions of the English Premier League.

With just one point separating Chelsea and Manchester United, the fans of the trophy holders were hoping that their team would overtake leaders, Chelsea, on the final day of the championship.

They were disappointed when Chelsea overran Wigan 8-0 and the United fans became incensed when their rivals began jubilating, leading to the fight between the rival fans.

A cigarette seller, Abubakar Usman, who witnessed the incident, told our resource that one Usman Yusuf, a commercial motorcyclist, broke his left arm.

The second person, fondly called Drogba, according to the cigarette hawker, was also injured on the hand.

Both victims were taken to a nearby clinic for treatment.

Police spokesman, Malam Isa Azare, said he had not been briefed on the incident as at press time.

“I don’t have information on the incident because the officer in charge of the area is yet to send a report on the issue to the headquarters.

“But I promise to let you know once we have information on the matter,” he said.

But a senior officer at the Command Headquarters, who craved anonymity, told the source that investigation into the incident had started, adding that some arrests had been made.
