Bauchi Spends N450m On Girl-Child Education
The Bauchi State Universal Education Board, says it spent more than N450 million on the implementation of the Girl-Child Education Programme (GEP) in the last one year.
This was contained in the Annual Performance Report published by the Board and made available to The Tide on Sunday source in Bauchi, on Thursday.
GEP was initiated by the Federal Government in collaboration with the UNICEF to improve enrolment, retention and completion of girls’ education in basic and post basic schools.
“ The state government is sensitive to girl-child education and is committing N37.5 million monthly to the programme.”
“ GEP is also replicated in the 20 local government areas of the state,” the report said.
It said more than N25 million was spent on the purchase and distribution of one million exercise books for beneficiaries of the programme.
The report further indicated that boreholes and latrines were provided in all primary and junior secondary schools to enhance sanitation and hygiene.
“About 590 female teachers were sponsored to undergo special training at the College of Education, Azare, to ensure successful implementation of the programme,” it added.
