Abia Rehabilitates 250 Schools
Governor Theodore Orji of Abia state says his administration rehabilitated 250 schools in the state, with Abia North Senatorial Zone having about 60 of the rebuilt schools.
Out of this number, 28 are primary schools, 36 junior secondary schools while two are senior secondary Schools.
Orji, at a grand civic reception in his honour by the people of Abia North senatorial zone at Ohafia local government headquarters , Ebem, also said of the 165 health centres built by his government, 55 were located in Abia North, just as 40 sons and daughters of the zone have been appointed into various political offices.
Other democracy dividends for the zone, according to the governor, include 45 transformers while plans were underway to rehabilitate Ndi Oji Abam rice farm.
He disclosed that the Federal Government was tackling the erosion menace in Bende and Isuikwuato local government areas, while the state Government has entered into agreement with a foreign company to build a cement factory in Arochukwu local government area.
He announced that Abia State Basic Education Board [ASUBEB] emerged first in the entire South East this year with a cash prize of N70 million, adding that the same thing it won last year was being expended on the building of a library in each of the three senatorial zones of the state.
He urged members of his party, the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) to remain steadfast and denied the rumour that he was moving to PDP.
Chairman of the organizing committee of the reception, Senator Uche Chukwumerije, stressed the need for unity and strength among PPA members and described the gathering as that of victory.
Also Prof Anya O. Anya called on all Abians to join hands with the governor in solving the problems confronting the state, pointing out that no government can solve all the problems confronting the people alone. The occasion was chaired by Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu.
Highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of the chieftaincy title of Aghaeridike on the governor and the title of Omekadiya on his wife, Mercy.
