2011 Elections: Kogi Elders Call For Peace

The Kogi Central Elders’ Forum has called on politicians, seeking elective posts in the 2011 general elections to embrace peace for virile development in the area.

In a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of the elders in Okene, the forum called on political parties to be transparent, sincere and open in their scheme of things, especially on positions sharing.

It urged representatives of the district in various levels of the legislative assembly to keep in contact with the people for the progress of the area.

“Political and economic leaders of our district should endeavour to invest at home to generate employment and sustain peace of the land,” it said.

The forum stressed the need for its members to visit the governor of the state and seek support for its demand for producing the next governor.

The communiqué also called on the political class in the district to address future political conflicts.

Ealier at the meeting, the chairman of the forum, Alhaji Musa Etudaiye, expressed optimism that the meeting would address reccurrent political problems in the area.

He said the meeting became imperative as indigenes were recovering from the recent from political crises in the area.

“The meeting was neither time for apportioning blames nor pointing accusing finger, it was an opportunity for the led to talk to the leaders and vice-versa,” he said.

Also at the meeting, the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Phillip Salawu, urged the people to demonstrate love and peace to sustain development.

Okengwe, Idoma and Obehira communities were hit by crises that observers said, had lingered since the 2007 general elections in the state.
