17th NSF: States Hoist Flags September

In a bid to create the necessary awareness for the 17th National Sports Festival tagged “Garden City Games 2010”, Chief Executives of the 36 States of the Federation will on Thursday, September 16, 2010 hoist their respective flags in Port Harcourt.

The Vice Chairman, Main Organising Committee (MOC) and Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the festival, Engr. Tele Ikuru, disclosed this to newsmen shortly after the inaugural meeting of the MOC in Abuja.

Engr. Ikuru, who is also the Rivers State Deputy Governor, said the idea was a model that has never been done before in the history of the festival, stating that the Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission will flag-off the mobilisation and awareness campaign for the event.

He explained that the 17th NSF branded T-shirts will be worn by participants at the campaign, adding that the T-shirts will be distributed to all States’ Sports Councils, National Sports Federations’ officials, National Sports Commission’s officials, States’ Ministries, Departments and Agencies, schools, local government areas, among others.

Announcing that the MOC also approved “November 20th to 30th, 2010 as the date for the Opening and closing ceremonies, Engr. Ikuru said the Games Village will open two days before the opening ceremony and close two days after the closing ceremony.

He further disclosed that the MOC approved the list of events for the 25 sports for the festival as compiled by the relevant National Sports Federations and presented by the Secretariat.
