10 Contestants Emerge In Enugu Cooking Competition

Ten contestants have qualified to participate in this year’s edition of the  Enugu Regional  “ Maggi Cook for Mama Competition” aimed at using cooking as a platform to foster the timeless emotional bond between mother and child.  

The ten successful contestants emerged  Tuesday, at the end of the Enugu draw of the 2010 edition of the competition which is targeted at consumers, the ages of 13-17 in Secondary schools in Lagos, Benin, Enugu, Gombe and Kaduna.  

Speaking at the occasion which took place at Zodiac Hotel, Enugu, the Regional Manager of  Nestle Nigeria PLC,(sponsors of the competition), in charge of Enugu and Anambra states, Mr. Chukwuani  Innocent, disclosed that at the close of  entries on May 17, 2010, “We collated all completed application forms and recipes sent in by eligible contestants at each of the cities.”

According to him, a total of  1,027 entries were received , adding that all the contestants were required to  fill out an application form and attach the details of a written recipe of a yam dish of their choice and a fruit desert along with 10 empty sachets of Maggi Mix’py.  

Mr. Chukwuani further explained that the 10 successful contestants would be duly notified and a period of two weeks given them to practice and prepare for the cooking competition, where they will cook the written recipes which they submitted earlier.                

  The cooking process and the cooked food, he also explained, will be assessed by a panel of  5 judges, pointing out that the date for the Enugu regional cooking competition would be communicated in due course.

  The regional manager further disclosed that first prize winner  will go home with a set of cookware and maggi  hamper, the second prize winner will get a microwave oven and magi hamper, while the third price winner will receive  a food processor  and magi hamper.

  In the same vein,  all other contestants would also be rewarded with consolation prizes of table top gas cookers and maggi  hampers, adding that the Home Economics teachers in all the participating schools will each win a set of dishes.

  Turning to newsmen at the occasion , the regional manager said: “We urge you to join us in our quest to foster family bond, promote good cooking, excellent nutrition and proper dietary habits among Nigerian families”, he pleaded.
