RSUOE rewards Five Outstanding Staff

The authorities of the newly established Rivers State University of Education (RSUOE) have rewarded five of its staff for meritorious service to the institution.

At an award ceremony on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rosemund Green-Osahogulu said the award is given to employees who have consistently distinguished themselves in their area of duty.

She disclosed that the award is being bestowed annually and is aimed at motivating staff to strive towards excellence and at the same time sensitise the entire university community on devotion to work.

In her words: “Some of the virtues that the management of the university applauds are punctuality, promptness, smartness, devotion to duty, industry, humility, perseverance, integrity, sincerity and honesty”.

Prof. Green – Osahogulu said with the award, the institution is no longer a place for laxity, corruption and mediocrity saying that her administration is poised to reward hardwork and diligence.

Earlier in his speech, chairman of the Merit Award Committee for the 2010 Junior Staff Merit Award Presentation, Dr. H A Manilla declared that the event is aimed at institutionalising hardwork.

Lamenting the effect of corruption and indiscipline in the society, the university don noted that there is need to reverse the trend by recognising those who have shown distinction in their place of work.

Dr. Manilla disclosed that the award covers staff between grade level one to six and includes special gifts, certificates and cash rewards.

Among those who received the award were Mr Abanee Moses Mene, Mr Godwin Ibani and Mr. Bonus Wika.

Others are: Mrs Rita Amorrow and Mrs. Kaimera George.
