RSNC Pledges Support For Nurss Programmes

The Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), publishers of The Tide newspapers, has pledged to promote programmes initiated by the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS).

The pledge was made by the General Manager of RSNC, Mr. Celestine Ogolo when the newly inaugurated  national excutive of  NURSS paid him a courtesy visit on Monday in Port Harcourt.

The General Manager, while lauding the NURSS exco for its cohesion and sense of vision, noted that one way some of the programmes initiated by the body would succeed was by giving it adequate publicity and coverage.

The RSNC boss tasked the body to support government since the present administration had initiated  programmes that would improve the welfare of students all over the state.

Commending the body for its bid to check cultism and other social vices in school campuses across the state, Mr. Ogolo urged it to continue propagating the message of peace amongst the members.

Earlier in his remarks, President of NURSS, Elie Ogerenye informed the GM that the visit had become imperative following some new programmes initiated by the body and the need to seek the support of the corporation.

He stated that the body had commenced a nationwide visit to take inventory of the problems faced by the different chapters, disclosing that a framework was being put in place to reposition the body.

Some of the programmes he enumerated include the monthly  career symposium and an in-house students fund scheme where exceptionally bright students would be assisted with stipends to cushion their academic stress.

Comrade Ogerenye while underscoring the gains so far made by NURSS said the body had been a breeding ground for some of the country’s leaders, including the acting president, who was a former exco member of the organization.

He, however, urged the country leaders to shun all divisive tendencies, stressing that time had come for both the state and the nation to embrace unity and understanding.
