Rivers State Government has urged the people of the State to discountenance rumours making the rounds about the removal of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi  from office, tomorrow,

Reacting to the rumours yesterday in his office, the Chief of Staff Government House, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, said the ruling scheduled for tomorrow in the Court of Appeal has nothing to do with the removal of the Chief Executive, rather the issue borders on the proper hearing of the case, as instituted by Chief Bekinbo Soberekon of the Accord Party.

Chief Wike noted that the matter before the Court of Appeal, arising from the 2007 governorship election in the state, has nothing to do with the removal of Governor Amaechi, rather Chief Bekinbo Soberekon of the Accord Party was merely asking the appellant court to hear his suit, which was dismissed by the election tribunal for lack of merit, and to also give it accelerated hearing .

“We don’t know the mind of the Court, but what happened in Court last time was the question of going back for trial at the Tribunal, or be dismissed, according to the argument of the learned counsels before it adjourned”, he stated.

The chief of staff appealed to Rivers people to remain calm and go about their normal businesses, realizing that some opposition politicians thrive in rumour as a way of giving their followers hope”.

Chief Wike said the rumour of removal of Governor Amaechi was misleading, “and I do not know where they manufactured the story from”, adding that those that attended the last Court session know exactly what the issues canvassed in court represent”.
