Police Commissioner Urges Expatriates To Seek Police Protection
Mr Jonathan Johnson, the Commissioner of Police in Abia, has appealed to expatriates in the state to seek police protection when embarking on any trip.
“If the expatriates want to visit any place, they should kindly apply for police protection.
“They are always granted police protection wherever they are going,” he said on Thursday in Umuahia while reacting to the kidnap of two Germans in Abia.
He spoke through the command’s Spokesman, Mr Ali Okechukwu.
“We want to appeal to them to always apply for police security before they embark on any trip or any leisure anytime anywhere,” he said.
Johnson said the kidnapped expatriates were reported to have gone to Azumiri river for a picnic with three girls without any security.
He said: “After swimming, some people shot into the air. The three girls and the driver ran into the bush, while their abductors took them away and headed toward Akwa-Ibom State.
“Eyewitnesses told the police that the three girls and the driver came out of the bush and drove away with the jeep which belongs to the white men.”
The commissioner said the command had been combing the bush at the boundary between Abia and Akwa-Ibom in a bid to locate the wheareabouts of the expatriates.
He said that no embassy had contacted the command on the issue.
