PHCN Assures Ikeja Zone Of Regular Power

The Ikeja Distribution Zone of PHCN says it has taken delivery of new transformers that will boost power supply in the area by the end of April.

The Chief Executive Officer of the zone, Mr Chris Akamnonu, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Tuesday in Lagos.

Akamnonu said that the transformers were supplied to the zone under the Federal Government’s 2009 Capital Budget and Intervention Fund for the power sector.

“Presently, we have installed over 75 of the new transformers and in few weeks the zone would have installed more.

“The zone has set a target of reviving about 150 faulty transformers within a short time from now.

“There are plans to replace about 50 failed transformers to normalise power supply in the zone,” he said.

Akamnonu said that apart from the new transformers, the zone had installed and put to use 75 transformers.

The chief executive officer further disclosed that some distribution lines had been upgraded while 11 KVA feeders were under construction to reduce overloading and power interruptions at peak periods.

According to Akamnonu, other projects already completed include 15 KVA transformers at Igando, Oworonshoki and Bolorunpelu injection substations.

“The management of PHCN, Ikeja Zone, has also procured and distributed 69 new operational vehicles for prompt faults clearing and improved customer service delivery.

“Computerisation of fault recording and customers’ account verification and management are ongoing in the business units and undertaking offices,’’ he said.

The zone comprises Abule-Egba, Akowonjo, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ikotun, Odogunyan, Ogba, Ojodu, Oshodi and Shomolu business units
