The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) on Thursday urged the Federal Government to take appropriate measures to ensure effective distribution of gas to its power stations.

Chairman, Mosinmi Chapter of the association, Mr Adebisi Bada, told newsmen that there was need to sustain the current level of power distribution.

He said the ongoing turn-around in the power sector, if allowed to continue, would assist the country in achieving government’s 6,000 Mega Watt target.

Bada noted that there had been relative improvement in gas supply to the power sector in the last few days, and urged government to increase the level of power distribution.

He said there was abundant gas in the eastern part of the Niger Delta, and urged government to take measures to lay pipelines that could link the western Niger Delta where most of the plants were located.

“Government should also use the avenue to re-channel most of the gas pipelines in the eastern area to some of the western areas, where there is abundant gas supply.

“Nigerians have suffered enough in getting sufficient power supply. Government should ensure that the issue of power is addressed once and for all,’’ he added.
